Dean Atchison is employed as President of Spectrum Aeromed, a leading designer & manufacturer of air ambulance equipment for fixed wing & rotor wing aircraft. Dean acquired the assets of the troubled international aerospace company as a turn-around project in June 2007. The company has been recognized as one of the fasted growing private businesses in the United States for three consecutive years (Inc. Magazine; 2011, 2012 & 2013). Spectrum Aeromed operates with a registered AS9100C quality management system & a LEAN production certified team of 30, with offices in Fargo, ND, Knoxville, TN & Munich, Germany.

Dean also serves as an advisor to Luverne, Minnesota-based Midwest Fire Equipment & Repair Company.  Midwest Fire designs & manufactures fire apparatus & rescue vehicles for fire departments throughout North America. The company was founded in 1987 & was acquired by Dean’s wife, Sarah, in August of 2013.

Prior to entering the manufacturing space, Dean spent 18 years in leadership positions with Community First Bankshares, Inc. throughout the upper Midwest. His primary areas of business interest are people-centric leadership, strategic management, LEAN / continuous improvement, innovation, cash management & fun.  In 2014, the United States Small Business Administration recognized Dean as the North Dakota Small Business Person of the Year.

A native of Moorhead, MN; is a graduate of Concordia College, Moorhead with degrees in Economics & Business Administration & has a graduate degree in Finance/Commercial Banking from the University of Colorado Boulder; Graduate School of Banking.

Outside of work Dean lives to make memories with his wife Sarah & their two daughters. Dean works closely as a volunteer with the United Way of Cass-Clay, American Legion Baseball, the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, the MedEvac Foundation International, and the Association of Critical Care Transport.
